This episode of the Korea Now podcast features an interview that Jed Lea-Henry conducted with David Mason. They speak about David’s work on the distinctive nature of Korean Buddhism, its origins in Korea with the Three Kingdoms, the impact it had over the peninsula, its downfall under the early Choson dynasty, and the place it has found for itself in post-independent and contemporary Korean society.

David Mason has been a Professor of Cultural Tourism Studies at Gyeonghui University in Seoul, a Professor in the Public Service Department at Chung-Ang University, and is currently serving as a Professor in Cultural Tourism at Sejong University. He has also worked as an English language translator for the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, has served on the managing boards of the Royal Asiatic Society and Korean Society for Shamanic Spirit Studies, and he regularly guides tours into important Buddhist sites.
